Balm in Gilead began in 2005 from a vision to provide a weekend where women could come and experience a time of reflection, bonding and, healing.

Dr. Anne McDaniel, the founder of Balm in Gilead, Inc. had overcome many trying obstacles that ignited the passion in her to meet this need.  Dr. McDaniel shared her vision with her family, pastors and friends, and they all encouraged her to pursue her vision.

With much struggle of how it would happen and if she would be able to accomplish what seemed to be a daunting task, Dr. McDaniel held the first annual retreat at Jekyll Island, Georgia with theme “Beauty for Ashes”.  The weekend was a success and the ministry was born! Knowing that she was being directed by GOD, the yearly retreats continued with themes like, “Reigning as Queens”, The Purpose of a Woman”, “Standing on the Promise” and “Transformation: From the Inside Out”. Over the years, women have traveled from near and far to attend our annual retreats and we continue to be amazed by the healing and transformation of women that has occurred from just one vision from GOD!
